Workin' 9 to 5 - What a Way to Make A Livin'

Dolly Parton, the Icon, knew what she was talking about when she wrote this song. She, never a country girl to mince words, wrote an anthem for the working woman in 1980 that stands the test of time. From Dolly's fingernail rhythm to a women's working anthem, the song tells the story of decades of women's experience at work, whether it be at as secretaries, lawyers, doctors or meter readers. Men take the credit, and women did the work behind the scenes that men either wouldn't, or couldn't do.

Interestingly, working in a male dominated profession frequently causes this blogger to have 9 to 5 running through her head. As she sits in the courtroom, defending clients, arguing with prosecutors, and requesting relief, she is to be more prepared, better able to know the case, is held to a higher standard -- with less resources, less time, and no staff. You see, not only is she a woman, but she stands for those without -- those without money, education and societal safety nets.

She relies upon the greats like Dolly Parton, who got it back in the 80's and continues to poor that "cup of ambition." each and everyday. If she doesn't, who will?

For your listening pleasure, Ms. Dolly Parton:
